Introduction

Science students who obtain faculty honours in their third year will be welcome to join the Department of Microbiology and Immunology as BSc Honours candidates during 2010 provided that we can find supervisors and laboratory accommodation to meet the demand.

The course, which runs from late February until mid November, is designed to develop the research student’s capacity to solve problems, to analyse data, to read and think critically, and to communicate clearly. A research project is undertaken in close collaboration with a senior member of staff. In addition, the coursework component will involve 30 hours of contact for the study of advanced microbiology and immunology.

The same information is available in the current BSc Honours 2010 Booklet(pdf).

How to apply for the Honours program:

  1. Read the research topics and identify topics in which you have a strong interest.
  2. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with potential supervisors about specific topics of interest.
  3. Students need to lodge an online application for Honours to the Faculty of Science through the SIS
  4. Students need to lodge their project preferences with the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences through the online Honours Application Tracking System (HATS) which will be available from Monday 21 September 2009.
  5. Deadline for application is 20 November 2009.
  6. After discussions with a student, a supervisor may agree to accept the student for Honours. This mutual consent is indicated by the student and supervisor completing and signing Form B. Acceptance of a student is provisional and depends on the successful completion of your course and satisfying the honours entry requirements of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

Forms should be submitted to the Departmental Secretary, Corliss Chan, in Room 5.14 no later than Friday 21st November.
