Provision of Bacteriological Culture Media

All media must be ordered via an Internal Requisition Form or Internal Requisition FAX Form.

These forms may be placed in the box on the bench just outside the Media Room door or may be Faxed directly to media. If it is easier, orders can be e-mailed using an electronic version of the form. We do not accept orders by phone for internal users.

Forms must indicate the Lab Name, the person ordering the media and the phone extension number for any queries. Media must be identified by their universal name and very short abbreviations should be avoided. If the lab has not asked for a particular media before then the recipe must come with the order.

Forms must also indicate the delivery date media is required. At the very least, ONE WEEKS NOTICE IS REQUIRED before the delivery date. Do not plan your experiment and expect media to arrive on 0-1 days notice.

Completed orders cannot be stored in Media due to lack of storage space. Those orders that can be stored at room temperature will be placed on benches in the corridor. It is the labs responsibility to come and collect orders. Orders that need to be kept at 4ÂșC, must be collected as soon as the lab is phoned that it is ready. An acute shortage of cold room space will not allow media to store your order longer than overnight. If not collected on request, it will be placed at room temperature.

Some media items are stocked items. These are made in bulk and are available on short notice. Example: Luria Broth 10ml. There is no self serve available for these items. An order is required.

If a lab is a big user or regular user of media, than it is preferable to have a standard order which will automatically be produced on a schedule.

Provision of Tissue Culture Media

Media produces a number of stock tissue culture items. These are available to all users in the Department.

All ordering procedures are identical to bacteriological culture media. There is no self serve available as in previous years. All media must be ordered via an Internal Requisition Form or Internal Requisition FAX Form.

Routine orders will be supplied on short notice from stocks. If large amounts are needed for an experiment than advance warning is required. This allows media to big up sufficient stocks to supply the larger order.

Media is also able to produce experimental media, non routine media or special requirement media on request. The timelines for these type of media would be at least 5-7 working days.

All tissue culture media bottles MUST be returned to the third floor washup area for recycling.
