Waste Disposal - Sharps Waste
Return to Waste Disposal - Introduction
Sharps Waste
All sharps (scalpel blades, needles, glass pasteur pipettes etc) must be disposed of in proper Sharps Containers. These are yellow containers with black seal down lids which come in various sizes and are available from the store. Do not fill these containers above the line on the side.
Lids should be taped down and the label on the container filled in with:
- the Department Code (526)
- the Work Group name
- the weight of the contents
When full to the line, these should be taken to Room E07. Scales are available in the Waste Disposal Area for weighing containers of waste.
Once month (usually the third Thursday), Staff of the Media Preparation Unit collect the Department’s waste and place in the loading dock for removal by the University Approved Contractor to be high-temperature incinerated.
