About VacTX
VacTX Pty Ltd was established by EQiTX Limited and the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Vaccine Technology in January 2004 to commercialise the synthetic peptide vaccine technology discovered at the CRC. In March 2008, Starfish Ventures invested in VacTX to allow the company to further advance its operations.
VacTX's technology has the potential to produce safe and effective vaccines which can be delivered by inhalation or injection with the capacity to prevent and treat conditions including infections, cancer, allergy, inflammation and autoimmune diseases.
VacTX holds the exclusive right to exploit the technology in all human fields of use.
Research and further development of VacTX’s lipopeptide vaccine technology is conducted by Dr David Jackson, VacTX Chief Scientist and co-inventor of the technology, and his research team in the School of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Melbourne.
VacTX's Technology
VacTX vaccines are based on a synthetic lipopeptide structure developed by Dr David Jackson and the CRC for Vaccine Technology. Lipopeptide vaccines are comprised of peptide sequences joined to a small lipid molecule in a novel branched structure. The lipid molecule acts as an adjuvant, targeting the vaccine to dendritic cells.
The resulting vaccine product is a soluble, chemically defined pure substance for which the manufacture is both reliable and reproducible. Compared with biologically produced vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, the cost of manufacture of VacTX peptide vaccines is highly competitive, particularly when the QC/QA advantages are taken into consideration. VacTX vaccines have a further practical advantage over traditional vaccines in that they can be administered intranasally, overcoming the need for potentially painful injections.
Preclinical studies of a range of lipopeptide vaccines have demonstrated induction of potent antibody or cytotoxic T cell responses that are long lived. To date, lipopeptide vaccines have demonstrated efficacy in animal models against influenza, Group A Streptococcus, Listeria monocytogenes, luteinising hormone releasing hormone (LHRH), gastrin and several tumour models.
