HLA Msat Working Group
As microsatellites are still quite useful markers of the MHC region
we propose to continue such a systematic work within a working group
interested in those MHC markers. The Msat working group on HLA region
Msat would have as main objective to organise the tracking and sharing
of information regarding various aspects of HLA – Msat; it could
be organized in various branches: techniques; nomenclature; mapping;
polymorphism information; population frequencies and linkage disequilibrium;
disease studies; transplantation studies; miscellaneous. The outcome
could be a common database of information with the following aims:
- to update an integrated map of HLA region genes and markers
for the Msat data;
- to continue completing the Msat lists and characteristics
(as in ref Foissac et al (1997,1998, 2000), and in Cullen et al, 2003,
but potentially including other parameters that should be agreed upon
and organised in a database;
- to get population frequencies on Msat available in
a common web accessible resource (for example the HLA region allele
frequency database proposed by Derek Middleton (Northern Ireland) :allelefrequencies.net,
but there may be other ideas?)
- to provide electronically available forms for people submitting
their data for the database in a standardized format from their computer;
- to get these regularly updated versions available
through Internet, possibly as initiated by NCBI (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mhc/html/STRsearch2.html)
and with links to relevant literature references and updates being
mentioned in MHC specialized literature (agreement with one or several
journal to be searched for : Tissue Antigens? Immunogenetics? Other?).
